Photo Assignment

This one is a lot easier than it looks. Most SLR cameras have the ability to do this. This assignment will help you learn more about your cameras features. I am sure you can find a wealth of information on how to do this online. Here are the basic things you need to do:
1) You will need a tripod or a solid place to put your camera.
2) low light in a must. Take these at night.
3) Play with your exposure length. Try shooting at 1, 3, 5, 10 or even 30 minutes. I have done some or stars I let it stay open for an hour.
4) Be creative and have fun.

I will post a new assignment about every 2-3 weeks.

In this game CW and I got 10 kills in the warthog before we died. In this picture I was invisible with a gravity hammer crouched down so the warthog could not see me and just as it passed I hit the warthog causing it to fly across the screen then walked over and hit it again for a double kill. I ended up with 12 medals for this game.

Since its Christmas time we are going to make this one a Christmas theme. 1-2 pictures of Christmas at a different angle. Use perspective to show Christmas. I don't just want a picture of a tree or some lights. Maybe some close ups or looking through a tree. The key is interesting Perspective. Deadline Monday Dec 17th. Since this is Christmas the winner will get a gift and I will let my wife wrap it so it looks good.

No easy way to explain this so above is an example of our next project. Due date Sunday April 8th. For this one I did it the old fashioned way. Real film, Dark room, Scissors and glue. The idea is to take allot of Little pictures and piece them together. This can be done by printing them as a contact sheet putting them all together and taking a picture, or for the more computer literate of us this can be done in Photoshop.
I had a friend at ASU that did this with his bike and a copy machine. He then put the life size picture of his beloved bike on the wall. It was pretty cool at the time.

How to Make a Killer Photo using 8 Simple Composition Rules

I have been trying to teach Kristy about this but she doesn't like me teaching her so here you go.

Rule of Thirds
This “rule” applies for everything: landscape, macro and portraits, but exception would be the classic portrait. This means that instead of placing the subject (main focus of interest) in the centre of the frame put it on an intersection of the thirds. For me it is much simple to consider this “mind drawing” where my subject is placed either in point 1 or 2 or 3 or 4:

Cropping
Sometimes cropping a subject to make the viewer focus on some specific detail is an extremely good idea. But other times, when it’s not about details, it’s good to have the entire subject inside the picture and don’t take a shoot as if the subject is just about to leave, but rather just about to come if it is not standing. If you are in hurry or not so sure about what you want and you also got a high megapixel camera, you can afford thinking about cropping after shooting in the post-editing process. Otherwise, get closer and if getting closer will scare away your subject (hehe) then use your zoom.

Block the trash

I found this today and it seems to work well. All you have to do is point your DNS to their site. So your internet traffic flows through the scrubit server and trash site get blocked. Its free but as a work of warning the site has a program you can install but my understanding is there is no uninstall for it. I dont like things that cant be uninstalled.

RIAA Hates Open WiFi

"The RIAA is trying to make account owners liable for anything that happens on their network, including people who provide open WiFi. From Wired's Listening Post Blog:

Debbie Foster was sued by RIAA member company Capitol Records for allegedly sharing copyrighted material on a P2P file sharing network. However, the alleged infringement was apparently committed by someone else with access to her ISP account. Foster had the case dismissed last summer, and as reported by Listening Post earlier this month, was awarded attorney's fees in excess of $50,000.
For the RIAA, which functions as the legal and lobbying arm of the labels it represents, this was very bad news indeed. If the ruling stands, the RIAA will have to be much more careful about who it sues going forward, adjusting its scatter-shot approach to filing such lawsuits in order to avoid suing the wrong people. But if the RIAA's appeal is granted, open Wi-Fi hotspots could become standing invitations for the organization to sue.

If the RIAA is successful, the many people who operate unsecured networks will be open to RIAA lawsuits regardless of whether or not they're sharing music on their computers. Also, free anonymous public wifi could be a thing of the past. Which is more important? Free public WiFi or stopping people from sharing copies of John Mellencamp's "Our Country." Oh, wait. Development of Mac OS X 10.5 is wrapping up faster than many at Apple even anticipated, and at present, a release can be expected as early as late March, sources say.
Alongside the release of Version 10.5, code-named Leopard, will be new versions of Apple's consumer software suites, iLife '07 and iWork '07, which saw their release date pushed back due to expanded feature sets in both the applications. In addition, sources confirm that iLife '07 and iWork '07 will both contain numerous features dependent on Mac OS X 10.5, but whether Apple has made the unlikely and drastic move of completely axing support for earlier operating systems is less certain.

As late as mid-2006, Apple had planned to release iLife '07 and iWork '07 in January at Macworld Expo, as the company has done in previous years. But discontent over the quality of some of the new additions to the software, including Apple's first standalone spreadsheet application, saw the release pushed back. At the same time, according to sources, Apple made the decision to wrap Leopard-specific features into the new iLife and iWork suites, originally planned for future releases of the software, possibly to further encourage sales of all three products.

One such feature: The new iLife and iWork suites are reported to take advantage of Leopard's Core Animation, which simplifies the development of animation-rich software, according to another source.

Hitachi develops RFID powder

"Hitachi’s new RFID chips (pictured on right, next to a human hair) are 64 times smaller than their mu-chips (left)

RFID keeps getting smaller. On February 13, Hitachi unveiled a tiny, new “powder” type RFID chip measuring 0.05 x 0.05 mm — the smallest yet — which they aim to begin marketing in 2 to 3 years.

By relying on semiconductor miniaturization technology and using electron beams to write data on the chip substrates, Hitachi was able to create RFID chips 64 times smaller than their currently available 0.4 x 0.4 mm mu-chips. Like mu-chips, which have been used as an anti-counterfeit measure in admission tickets, the new chips have a 128-bit ROM for storing a unique 38-digit ID number.

The new chips are also 9 times smaller than the prototype chips Hitachi unveiled last year, which measure 0.15 x 0.15 mm.

At 5 microns thick, the RFID chips can more easily be embedded in sheets of paper, meaning they can be used in paper currency, gift certificates and identification. But since existing tags are already small enough to embed in paper, it leads one to wonder what new applications the developers have in mind."
